My father died today and this is not a cry out for support or sympathy, rather when death comes to visit the stay cannot be too long. It’s swift, fast and sometimes can linger on.

I spoke to my father just last evening, he was witty and wild on the phone no inclination of what  really was going on. I have been estranged from my father and his side of the family for the better part of 30 years.

This reminds me of something my grandmother once said, that families grow up, split apart, and that’s the way it is. I don’t see that with many families although I know this to be true.

However when death comes to visit the question I was prompted to answer was “now that this has happened what shall I do?” New life came into my fathers eyes and he was fighting until the end.

Sever cancer had plagued his brain, lungs and colon there wasn’t a lot he could do; when the chips were laid down there was not anything anyone could do. So my father did what he thought best, held his head up high and lived proud while God gave him this final test.

His spirits were good, he ate well and understood that although his days were numbered, he finished everything he had wanted to do. Having M.S. for the better part of 20 years took his body out of commission, he always had to deal with adversity and find ambition.

So I say death brings new life into those of us dying and those of us on the outside. I have a chance to see the impressions he left on some half siblings and extended family I know nothing about from my previous years in life.

A Sister, an Aunt, nieces and nephews too. A new beginning, a new day to find some amazement too. For those distant memories in life which seem so long ago can become so real in the moment you just don’t even know.

I say today and every day that you are able to wake, make it the best day ever do take it for granted and let it go to waste. I wish all of you a happy day as Easter grows near I must shed one other tear.

This will be five years on the day after Easter that my Mother will have been gone, for she is another who passed suddenly, without warning again I will never see her except in my minds eye.

Take a moment out to tell someone you love an dappreciate just how much they mean to you. I promise that you’ll feel better when you do.
